You think you know what Stewardship means?
You might be surprised.
Caution: This could change your outlook on life.
In 1992, the U.S. Catholic Bishops published a Pastoral Letter (teaching document) titled “Stewardship: A Disciple’s Response.” It is a powerful document that created a spiritual movement in the Catholic Church in the U.S., helping many Catholics on their journey of discipleship through the recognition that everything in life is gift – a God-given gift.
The late Archbishop Thomas Murphy led the Bishops’ committee who drafted this pastoral. Below are links to 4 parts of his talk in Advent of 1993 in Indianapolis. It serves as a mini-course on the lifestyle and spirituality of discipleship – Stewardship.
Each video is only 5-9 minutes long. Do yourself a favor and watch them all at once if you can or one at a time if you can’t afford the time.
Watch this 4-minute intro from Pastoral Staff Director Tom Norton called, What Do I Do With All These Gifts? 4 Things.
Session II is a video of another author of the Pastoral Letter, Bishop Robert Morneau of the Diocese of Green Bay.
Another member of that Bishops’ committee was Bishop Robert Morneau from the Diocese of Green Bay. An accomplished writer, poet, and speaker, Bishop Morneau outlines in this 2011 recording of his talk in Boise, easy-to-remember steps and principles for the stewardship way of life.
