Outreach – Service

cubscoutshelpingOutreach & Service Ministries

As a parish community – and as individuals – we are able to join with others in our neighborhood community to connect people in need with people who want to help.  St. Isidore parishioners have  generously supported 1,000’s of individuals over the years by sharing their abundance with those  in need.

To get involved and share your abundance in the ministries of Outreach please email us.

Hunger Ministries

Food Pantries
Serve at three of the Neighborhood Food Pantries (NFP) of which our parish is a founding partner by giving out food or providing a listening ear. Additional training is given to those who wish to assist families with rent, utility and other bills through NFP. Transporters of collected non-perishable food from St. Isidore to our local food pantry are also needed. Click here for more information.

Feed My Starving Children (FMSC):
Individuals, friends and family (as young as 5) are invited to feed starving children once a month with their parish family at the FMSC Schaumburg location.

Organic Garden
The St. Isidore farming tradition lives on through our Organic Gardners. All harvested produce is donated to the Neighborhood Food Pantries (NFP).

Franciscan Outreach Soup Kitchen
Parishioners are involved in two ways: Sloppy Joes are on the menu at the Franciscan Outreach Soup Kitchen once a month and you can prepare that (special recipe) and bring buns and a bag of chips to the parish office. The sloppy joes will be taken downtown or you can travel with them to Chicago’s west side one Saturday per month to serve hot meals to the poor and homeless.

Thanksgiving Food Drive
Low income and in need community families visit at Thanksgiving to “shop” for their holiday meal. Workers are needed to handle the collection, organizing and distribution of non-perishable food, ham and turkeys and other items on the Sunday before Thanksgiving.

Shelter Ministries

P.A.D.S. (Public Action to Deliver Shelter)
As we partner with DuPage PADS, meet and serve our homeless neighbors every Monday night on the St. Isidore campus by providing set up, hospitality, supplies, cold and hot food, making lunch, dinner and breakfast, serving meals, helping out through the night and many more volunteer shift tasks.

Transitional Housing
Mentor
a transitional housing famly, chosen through Bridge Communities, during their 1-3 year residence in a Bridge apartment. Support the current and on-going work of St. Isidore to provide one apartment and possibly more to house our current family and potentially additional ones.

Burned Church Ministry
Mission trips are scheduled throughout the year to rebuild a house of worship which has been burned. Church is our spiritual home. All skill levels are welcome and administrative and communication team members are needed.

Reaching Out To Serve

Council of Catholic Women (CCW) unites and supports, empowers and educates Catholic women in spirituality. CCW Newsletter

English as a Second Language Side by Side (ESL):  Adults whose first language is not English need adult tutors to practice and learn English for citizenship classes, employment, education and for successful individual and family living.

Adopt A Family:  During Advent low income community families and individuals are given a special Christmas by members of our parish community. Articles that the family/individual needs are purchased as Christmas gifts and can be personally delivered.

Giving Tree/Toy Drive/Coat Drive:  During our Advent and Christmas season, opportunities to give those things that take funds from a low income family’s precious financial resources are provided through the Giving Tree (soap and paper products, diapers/wipes, underwear and mittens), Toy Drive and Coat Drive. Your service is needed to “trim the tree” with gift tags, collect and distribute the gifts and toys to local organizations, and to sort and bag coats.

Make it a Habit to Share:  Lent encourages us to challenge ourselves. To give up a bad habit or start a good one  –  start a habit to share food, clothing or critically needed items with those in need.

Stuff for the Poor:  Got Shoes? Your used but useable shoes provide education and a chance for a successful life for children in Africa. Stuff for the Poor provides an opportunity for the poorest of the poor to become self-sufficient with your help.
