An annual rite of spring, this year’s musical, “Oklahoma,” was performed Sunday and proved to be another in a long line of successful productions under the direction of Mrs. Jeanne Leix, who directed her 12th and final musical at SIS. She is retiring at the end of this school year. Thanks Jeanne! The musical is based on Lynn Riggs’ 1931 play, Green Grow the Lilacs. Set in Oklahoma Territory outside the town of Claremore in 1906, it tells the story of farm girl Laurey Williams and her courtship by two rival suitors, cowboy Curly McLain and the sinister farmhand Jud Fry. Lead roles were played by Mikayla Testolin as Laurey, John Kovarik as Jud, Justin DelaCruz as Curly, Dylan Sulit as Will Parker, Sarah Kuchler as Aunt Eller, Lizzy Ryan as Ado Annie and Xavi Hagen as Ali Hakeem. Several other SIS students rounded out the cast and did a tremendous job after rehearsing since January. Awesome job kids! Also thanks to Mrs. Michele Tran-Ho for her costume work, alumni parent Jeff Heydt, choreographer, Mr. Jim Leix who built much of the set, and several other teachers, students and staff who helped with sound, lighting, etc.
