Dear Parents and Guardians,
We are moving into the very busy month of May! This is always such an exciting time in schools, and I am so incredibly thankful we are able to experience it together, in person!! Pay close attention this weekend as school staff will be reaching out to our families to show our thanks and appreciation in a fun and surprising way! We couldn’t have done what we have done this year without your support!
It’s hard to believe that it is Communion, Confirmation, and Graduation season already. Our 2nd graders will be celebrating their First Holy Communion on Saturday. Please keep them in your prayers as they receive the Most Blessed Sacrament. We look forward to having our 2nd graders join our school community in receiving the Eucharist each Wednesday during our school liturgies. As an extension to this special day, our 2nd graders will be having a special Communion celebration on Wednesday, May 5th. In the same manner, please keep our 8th graders in your prayers as they receive the fruits of the Holy Spirit at their Confirmation the following weekend.
Parish May Crowning- Representatives from the SICS Class of 2021 will be honoring May this Sunday at our Parish May Crowning. The Parish May Crowning will be live streamed prior to the 10am Mass. Please join us for this special occasion.
Legislative Action/ Empower Illinois- It’s time to take action! Please make a commitment to the statewide coalition advocating for this program, our school, and thousands of kids across Illinois in a very simple way. Reach out to your state legislator to let them know to keep this program up and running by clicking on this link and submitting your name. https://p2a.co/aiqfyfw
Legislative Action/ HB 2789- You may have heard about House Bill 2789, amendment #2. It appears to give the state extraordinary powers to act on schools, including non-public schools, regarding health protocols during Covid. The Diocese of Joliet is aware of this and is working with the Catholic Conference of Illinois (our lobbying group). In the meantime, I encourage you to reach out to your local state legislators to ask for an explanation of this bill, as well as the impact it may have on non-public schools. I left messages for my state rep and state senator this morning, and am anxious to discuss this with them.
End of the Year Medication Reminder- If your child has any medication stored in the school office (including inhalers, epi-pens, etc.) please be sure to pick it up on the last day of school before 12noon. We cannot store medication in the office over the summer. Unclaimed medication will be destroyed. Also, please note that medication will not be sent home with students. The school office will close at 12:00 on the last day of school.
Field Day- Our annual field day for students in grades 1-7 is Tuesday, June 1st. Students should come to school in PE clothes or spirit wear, gym shoes, and socks. Students are asked to bring a beach towel, sunscreen (if needed), and a water bottle. Each class will rotate from event to event. Mrs. Butler has a ton of fun activities planned! A fun and yummy snack will be provided to the students during Field Day. Please note that dismissal on Field Day is 12noon.
Last Day of School Mass- Wednesday, June 2nd is the last day of school for the 2020-2021 school year. Students will attend Mass at 8:15am and then return to their classrooms for their summer good-byes. Dismissal on the last day of school is 9:30am.
Enjoy the wonderful weather this afternoon.
