Legion of Mary

The Legion of Mary is a lay apostolic association of Catholics who, with the sanction of the Church and under the powerful leadership of Mary Immaculate, Mediatrix of All Graces, serve the Church and their neighbors on a voluntary basis. The Legion sees as its priority the spiritual prayer, service and evangelization works of each individual. The members participate in the life of the parish through visitation of families, the sick, both in their homes and in hospitals and through collaboration in every apostolic and missionary undertaking sponsored by the parish. Meetings at St. Isidore will be held in Room 209 of the Ministry Center on Mondays from 7 to 8 p.m., beginning June 2. Please fill out the form below to express interest in the Legion of Mary.

Legion of Mary Testimonials:

I was impressed at how one Legion of Mary member knew so much about the Catholic faith, and especially about Mary. He has been an active member for about 60 years. He is in his mid ’80s, yet he has such zeal and dedication to the Legion of Mary that he continues to do legionary works for our blessed Mother. So I decided to give it a try and joined as an active member of the  Legion of Mary. I started learning more about Catholicism, Catechism, and true devotion to Mary. For me, reading and learning the Bible and the Catechism is not enough. I want to apply and practice what I learn about my Catholic faith by sharing my faith with others through spiritual works of mercy, such as promoting the praying of the rosary as a community after daily Mass. As a Legion of Mary member, I underwent a one-on-one training on how to do the legionary apostolic works right away, such as doing door-to-door visitation and pilgrim virgin home visitations, to name a few.  I felt a great sense of fulfilment and joy in participating in Mary’s mission of bringing souls to Christ. In doing the apostolic and spiritual works of mercy with fellow legion members, I also developed a strong sense of family and camaraderie with each other and gained new friends that share the same love for Mary and the passion to serve our Lord Jesus through service to our neighbors. As the recent gospel says : “the harvest is plenty but the laborers are few.” The Legion of Mary is the extension hands and feet of the priests in their evangelization work. Mary is calling everyone to join her army. Will you answer her call? —Legion member

As an aspiring member of the Legion of Mary, I’ve found a profound sense of purpose that enriches my spiritual life. Going out two-by-two to share our faith and serve others feels like a true calling, echoing the mission of the apostles. Being part of my parish community has deepened my connection to fellow Catholics, fostering a sense of belonging and shared devotion. Above all, working under the grace of our Blessed Mother Mary brings me immense joy and strength, guiding my efforts with her loving intercession. The Legion of Mary has truly transformed my faith into action. —Gil, Legion member

One of the legion works is door-to-door visitation. I went under training with the 85-year-old Legion of Mary leader one Saturday morning. For an hour, we walked and knocked on doors of the homes in one block. We typically begin by introducing ourselves as Legion of Mary members of the parish and engage in a short conversation. I realized the importance of this legionary works early on in this experience. I noticed that, for example, in one Saturday, out of 11 homes in the block, only one is a practicing Catholic. It is alarming to hear responses such as: “Oh, I used to be an altar boy when I was young. I am in my 70s, it’s been 40 years since the last time I visited the church. Kids have not received their sacraments.” Another admitted: “I used to be an usher in church, but I haven’t been back for 30 years.” A young lady in one of the new subdivisions said: “We are not a member of any church, we don’t go to church.” Another 80-year-old resident admits, “ I haven’t had a confession nor have I been going to Mass in decades!” My partner then, who is a bit older than most of them, would then say, “You know, one day we will face our maker, we must be ready at anytime that He calls us home.” And so, as Legion of Mary members, we try to invite these non-practicing Catholics and atheists to come to our church by giving them a copy of the bulletin, inviting them to check our church’s website, showing them the Mass and Confession schedules, and reminding them the most important graces of receiving Confession and receiving Jesus in the Eucharist. We typically give them miraculous medals and discuss the messages and promises of the Blessed Mother Mary to those who pray the rosary and wear the miraculous medals. The goal of the Legion of Mary is to help Mary save souls by inviting those who have been away from the Church to return and receive God’s mercy and forgiveness. Since the first Legion of Mary meeting began last June 2, I and my Legion partner for this assignment, have knocked on over 100 doors doing door-to-door evangelization works for an hour each Saturday. We hope to cover larger areas and more homes if we have more members willing to work for our Lady. We hope that more parishioners will prayerfully consider and answer Mary’s invitation to join her Legion and be her hands and feet in saving souls. Will you consider joining her army?
